Jersey Handshake:
valuable lessons in keeping promises

this weekend i had the opportunity to go see `jersey boys'. let me just say that if haven't seen this or experience it, go buy a ticket and be blown away. if you are into music, friendship and life in general then you will definitely enjoy this show. by the way, this is not a pitch whatsoever for you to go see the show, its more than that. there was this certain scene/monologue from one of the character saying `this all started from a single handshake, no more than 20yrs ago, no fancy words on contract but just a simple jersey handshake'..which got me thinking...how often these days do we deal with promises or deals or contracts with just `simple handshakes'..are we that untrustworthy, or are we simply people who ends up breaking it for god knows what reasons or excuses....yes, i get it, we are not perfect and eventually we will let people down and i guess that is why we write contracts so that i guess in the end, we can sue them for it...but what would our world become if we become people who are actually `man of our words'...what if we become the friend who keep his/her promise regardless...what if business honors the words that say on the ads or commercial..and no strings attached...what if politicians actually meant what they say and keep it...hmm that'll be the day!hahah BUT WHAT IF! maybe, just maybe our world would be a better place...i am still earning this and by no means i am an expert but there were times when i said about being someplace and not be there or help a friend and be completely forgo about it...yes we can all learn from our mistakes and by no means this is an encouragement to make more promises...this is a lesson of actually keeping that promise, be a man or woman of our words..that when we say `we'll be there, then we'll be there'...let's be more than the words we say...let us `walk the talk'...let us do what we set out to do...our human history is shaped by doers and not just talkers....so let us be better friends by keeping our promises...let us be better workers/business people/politicians by having integrity and a reputation of being trustworthy...let us shape this planet not just by our good intentions but also by our good works.

We must not promise what we ought not, lest we be called on to perform what we cannot. ~Abraham Lincoln
